ALPHA LUPUS/KOTA

Alpha Lupus

Alpha Lupus is a weekend winter camping school designed to teach Scouts, Scouters and Venturers the basic skills needed to operate a safe outdoor winter program for your own unit.  (adult leadership is required.)

Alpha Lupus is open to any registered Scout, Scouter or Venturer who desires to learn how to have safe fun during Minnesota's best 6 months of camping (participants must be second class and 12 years of age or older, and should have some winter activity experience as a Webelos Scout, or with other group programs).

There are different program camps during each weekend.

Alpha Lupus is for first time campers. Novice instruction, with winter camping training provided. "You will learn how to include winter camping in your troop's program for "fun" not for survival," (Maximum - 40 per weekend).

Friday night you will stay indoors and learn the ins and outs of cold weather camping.  Sessions include information about clothing, shelters, food, and gear that will keep you warm and dry and can also be fun!  Saturday night you will sleep in a shelter you have built yourself!

Planned activities include shelter building, ice fishing, and an orienteering challenge.

KOTA WINTER CAMPING

Kota High Adventure is for experienced winter campers only.  You must have attended at least 1 Alpha Lupus training weekend to participate in this outdoor program, or approved by your troop leadership. Gourmet meals, quality camaraderie, outdoor activities and instruction fill out this weekend experience, (Maximum - 40 per weekend, adult leadership is required.).

Participants will arrive on Friday night and be given the tools and clues to find their campsite, build a shelter an enjoy a winter night out in the woods.

Outdoor instruction, rifle shooting, fishing, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, are just a few fun things these Scouts do.  Work on the requirements for the snow Sports Merit Badge and the Wilderness Survival Merit Badge!  (Prepare and bring your survival kit to camp with you!)

All fees include facilities, training, supplies, meals and snacks.
